press release: 9/2021
The Scholarship Fund of Concord and Carlisle is pleased to announce that the 2021-2022 Officers have been named. Travis Minor of Acton and an alumnus of Concord-Carlisle High School, has become the new Chair of the Board of Trustees, Devra Feshbach-Meriney of Concord will continue to serve as Assistant Chair, Steve Payne of Salem, NH and formerly of Concord as Treasurer, Al Powers of Carlisle as Assistant Treasurer, and Elaine DiCicco of Concord as Secretary. With new leadership for The Scholarship Fund organization comes new ideas and fresh energy as we move forward into the new season.
At the year-end The Scholarship Fund board meeting in June, Board Chair Bee Loprete acknowledged the retirement of Trustees Ed Bernard, Nick Carter, Jeanne DeTemple and Lucy Miller. All four leave the board after many years of dedication and hard work. Ed was the organization’s copy writer, crafting letters for solicitations and annual appeals; Nick Carter was our expert in all things data base related and was responsible for implementing The Scholarship Fund’s new website; Jeanne was chair of the Awards Committee, the heart of the organization, for many years.
Lucy Miller’s endless list of contributions to the board has earned her the distinctive title of Trustee Emerita. As Chair of the Board of Trustees for two terms, Lucy guided the organization through some turbulent financial times and under her leadership it celebrated 50 years with a rebrand initiative. With over 30 years of professional development experience, and as Chair of the Development Committee, Lucy brought The Scholarship Fund from a 2 million dollar organization to one over 5 million dollars today. We are forever grateful to her and will continue to look to her for her wisdom.
Associate Trustees Joe Laurin, Kathleen Reidy, Kathi Snook and Phoebe Sturges have been named full Trustees.
In addition, we are pleased to announce the appointment of Marc Caruso of Concord as Trustee in charge of Technology. Marc has lived in Concord for 25 years with his wife, Rebecca, and has three children in the Concord school system. He earned a B.A. in Economics from Tufts University, which he was only able to do because of scholarships like those awarded by The Scholarship Fund of Concord and Carlisle, so the organization’s mission is a deeply personal one for him. Marc has spent his entire career in the technology industry, and is currently Chief Architect at Syntax, where he helps companies with digital transformation initiatives. He is an active member of the Concord-Carlisle community, and currently serves as the President of Concord-Carlisle Youth Basketball, as a Corporator of Emerson Hospital, and as an active volunteer with The Heritage Club
The Scholarship Fund of Concord and Carlisle looks forward to a productive and successful 2021-2022 season of activity and fundraising.
