THE GEORGE W. BERRY SCHOLARSHIP FUND

press release: 9/1/2022

The Scholarship Fund of Concord and Carlisle is pleased to announce the establishment of The George W. Berry Scholarship Fund. The Fund has been founded by the Berry family to honor George W. Berry’s legacy of philanthropic support.  This is the second Named Fund to be established by the Berry family, who also endowed The Wilson Flight Scholarship Fund in 2004.  The Berry family’s preference is that the awards to be made from The George W. Berry Fund will go to CCHS graduates who have demonstrated an interest in Mathematics, Computer Science, or Engineering.

Throughout his life, Mr. Berry channeled his many passions— especially classical music, education, and science— into charitable work. He proved a great supporter of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, serving as an Overseer for many years; the American Cancer Society, helping to raise funds to build the first Hope Lodge in Boston for cancer patients and their families; and Dartmouth College, serving on the board of the Hopkins Art Center and Dartmouth College's Presidential Leadership Council, making a gift of a new dormitory in 2005, and spearheading the building of the Berry Library at Dartmouth College, named for his late father, John.

Above of all, Mr. Berry loved spending time with his wife Roberta, children, grandchildren and friends.  His family remembers him most “as a quiet and brilliant man who touched countless lives with his generosity, and one whose spirit will live on profoundly in those he loved and supported.”  The Scholarship Fund is honored that the Berry family is continuing Mr. Berry’s lifetime of philanthropic work through its organization.

Since 1966, The Scholarship Fund of Concord and Carlisle, has supported more than 1,400 students from the Concord and Carlisle communities. For more information on The Scholarship Fund of Concord and Carlisle, please visit our website www.thescholarshipfundofcc.org
