the Ellen Lee Simarano MEMORIAL Scholarship Fund

Ellen Frances Lee was born at Emerson Hospital in 1941 and graduated from Concord High School in 1959. She attended Western College for Women in Ohio (now part of Miami University) for a year and returned to resume studies locally taking classes at Framingham State and Boston University. Ellen returned to her original family home to raise her three children and flourished in her work in marketing at Digital Equipment Corporation. She was a self-taught, self-made woman with intellectual curiosity and a love of learning; she was a voracious reader surrounded by books from the Concord Public Library covering topics ranging from gardening, cooking, history, politics and classic literature. In her retirement years, she created beautiful gardens, knitted sweaters for her grandchildren, enjoyed games and puzzles, expanded her cooking and learned French. Ellen’s positive outlook and can-do spirit was an inspiration to living life to its fullest and gaining new hobbies, interests and continuing to learn.

In her honor, the Ellen Lee Simarano Memorial Scholarship Fund was created to support students with a commitment to community service or a passion for the study of civics, government, history and/or literature.
