Associate Trustee, The Scholarship Fund of Concord and Carlisle
As a CCHS student, I was very influenced by my math teacher, Norton Levy. He began teaching there in the 1950s and retired in the 1980s but remained active in initiating and leading math leagues in the Concord middle schools and high school. He was an incredible teacher who taught honors math and really inspired students to reach their fullest potential, resulting in many kids earning near perfect SAT math scores. He brought students to many competitions and helped us hone our skills through testing at many venues. I credit him with setting me on an academic path in math which ultimately led to my career as an actuary. I owe him a great deal as a result, and wanted to honor him. I decided to engage some of my friends who felt the same gratitude for Norton Levy to endow a scholarship in his name with The Scholarship Fund of Concord and Carlisle.
Shortly after that was established, I was invited to become a Trustee of The Scholarship Fund, where I served for many years, several of which as the Chairperson. I am still an Associate Trustee and I remain very active as a sort of ambassador for The Scholarship Fund in the community. Because my family has been in Concord for generations, we have many friends, and I enjoy connecting The Scholarship Fund with many people and organizations to develop scholarships and grow the funds for the good of the young people in the community.
Both of my parents and my grandparents before them attended Concord High School, predecessor to Concord Carlisle High School, and interestingly both my father and I had the same football coach, Bernie Meaghan. Unbeknownst to me, at the same time I was helping establish the Norton Levy Scholarship Fund, my mother, Mary Anderson, was endowing a scholarship in my father’s name, William W. Anderson, with The Scholarship Fund. My parents met as Concord High School freshmen. My father was known to many as the proprietor of Anderson’s Photo on the Milldam in Concord for decades, where many of my family also worked.
I have met such accomplished and deserving students over the years of my involvement with The Scholarship Fund of Concord and Carlisle, and I am very proud to be associated with the organization. I believe that education is vitally important and the key to our future. Because I believe higher education should be available to all, I am very committed to the mission of providing scholarships to students in need. My goal is to help raise the visibility of The Scholarship Fund and to be able to offer even greater support to many more students in the future.
