The scholarship fund application process

Press release: 2/22/2018

Does your college student need tuition money? Thanks to the generosity and support of our community, every year many students receive scholarships from The Scholarship Fund of Concord and Carlisle, and from its Affiliates, to help them achieve their goals of higher education. Last spring, 30 high school seniors and 48 students already in college received awards totaling $270,000 with an average scholarship value exceeding $3,600!  Each award is made for one academic year and students are encouraged to reapply for an award during each of their four years.

Your high school seniors have now completed their college applications and are eagerly awaiting admission notifications. While acceptance letters are cause for celebration, the challenge of financing higher education can be daunting. The annual cost of attending a four-year college has risen steadily and now exceeds $26,000 at UMass Amherst and has surpassed $60,000 at 55% of the colleges and universities that last year’s scholarship applicants chose to attend. If paying these fees is daunting to your family, now is the time to apply for need-based post-secondary scholarships.  To be eligible for consideration, students must have financial need as documented with the FAFSA and must have graduated from Concord Carlisle High School or have lived in, Concord or Carlisle.

These are the “Six Easy Steps to Apply”:

1. Visit www.thescholarshipfundofcc.org

2. Download application

3. Submit Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

4. Request official school transcript be mailed to The Scholarship Fund

5. Submit application and a copy of the Student Aid Report (SAR) to The Scholarship Fund by April 1, for in-college student, by May 1 for graduating high school seniors

6. Attend The Scholarship Fund interview in early May (graduating seniors only)

It is essential that these steps be followed closely.  Every year some students delay requesting their official transcripts or submit the application too late for consideration.

For high school seniors with demonstrated financial need, if all three parts of the application (application, FAFSA, and official transcript) are complete and postmarked by the above deadline, the student will receive an email notification of their interview time. Interviews will be help on Tuesday, May 15th, 2018 at Concord Carlisle High School.
