The Scholarship Fund of Concord and Carlisle Announces its Officers and Trustees for the 2017-18 Year

The Scholarship Fund of Concord and Carlisle is pleased to announce that the 2017-2018 Executive Committee will remain the same as it was in our previous year. Lucy Miller of Concord continues as Chair of the Board of Trustees, Bee Loprete of Concord as Assistant Chair, Welles Hatch of Carlisle is Treasurer, with Al Powers of Carlisle as Assistant Treasurer, Elaine DiCicco of Concord as Secretary and Lindsay Kafka and Paul Ressler both of Concord remaining as Past Chairs.

At the year-end The Scholarship Fund board meeting in June, Board Chair Lucy Miller acknowledged the retirement of Trustee Linda Meyers-Tierney and expressed appreciation for her service to the Board, noting that “Linda’s Board tenure was marked by her leadership of the conceptualization through printing and distribution ofTelling Our Stories, a compilation of stories and testimonials from over 50 scholarship recipients, named fund benefactors, named fund honorees, and trustees, created in honor of our 50th anniversary.”

The Scholarship Fund is very pleased to introduce three new Associate Trustees, Hanna Bruno, Julie Hagan and Janet Friedman, all of Concord.

Before taking a teaching position in Concord in 2009, Hanna worked in the Somerville Public Schools as the Physical Education for Progress (PEP) grant coordinator. She has a BA from Williams College and an MEd from Boston University. Hanna is a Health & Fitness teacher and a METCO teacher at CCHS as well as coaching Cross Country and Track & Field. She serves as a faculty advisor in both Student Government and the Boston Student Mentor Program (POWER) and facilitates the Freshman Orientation Program. Hanna and her husband have a daughter and a son, both in the Concord school system.

Prior to moving to Concord, Julie served on a parent advisory committee at the British School in Amsterdam that worked to recruit and support faculty. Her volunteer experience began in the Germantown School district, outside of Memphis, TN where she was voted Volunteer of the Year for her dedication to the Parent Teacher Association. During this time, Julie also served as a sponsor and organizer of a surgical mission program in Lima, Peru to treat severe adult deformity in over 100 orthopedic patients. More recently, she served 3 consecutive years as a Volunteer organizer on the Concord-Carlisle High School “All Night Live” committee recruiting and scheduling parent volunteers to help our CCHS graduates safely celebrate their commencement. Currently, she is on the gala committee for The Umbrella Community Arts Center to help support the arts in our community. Julie and her husband, Cary, live in Concord and have 2 daughters, Brenna, CCHS class of 2015, and Addison, CCHS class of 2018.

Janet Rhodes Friedman, CFP®, CDFA® is financial planner and investment advisor with Abaris Financial Group, LLC in Concord.  Her key areas of expertise are investment management, retirement planning, college funding strategies, divorce financial planning, and financial literacy. She earned her AB in Management Science cum laude from Duke University, and MBA from The Tuck School at Dartmouth.  Janet has served as Vice President at Fidelity Investments, Senior Consultant at KPMG, and Commercial Lending officer at First Atlanta Bank. She is a licensed Certified Financial Planner® (CFP®); a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst® (CDFA®); and an active member of six professional organizations.  Janet has held local leadership roles since moving to Concord in 1995.  Currently a Trustee for Town Donations in Concord and Treasurer of West Concord Union Church, she has served on Concord Education Fund; Town of Concord Finance Committee; Concord-Carlisle Community Chest; CCHS Parents Association; National Charity League; and Willard School PTG. Her two children graduated from CCHS (Hannah, 2012) and Benjamin (2015).

This is a dynamic board of trustees showing consistent enthusiasm and leadership to The Scholarship Fund organization as we look forward to a year of activity and fundraising.
